Everyone should know this: Tho I had been told not to put valuables in our luggage, who would think that on a flight from Edmonton to Kelowna it would be a concern. Our camera was stolen from our luggage on a recent flight. Of course when I called WJ they acted like it was the first time this ever happend and offered no help or compensation. Learn from our mistake!!

When I called to book a flight to Hawaii with Westjet they immediately answered and the lady was very polite. My flight is booked and I was given all the information necessary for my trip. But I called early in the morning, when few people would call. So I believe that the service isn't bad its just hard to get through to them at the busy times of the day (which is expected). For example, if you go to a popular restaurant on a Saturday night and with no reservation you would have to expect to wait a long time - maybe even hours depending on the popularity of the restaurant.

As many other people have previously stated, I have always been a big fan of West Jet and always choose them as my preferred airline. That illusion, unfortunately, has now been erased. My story starts on the afternoon of Sunday, February 28th 2010. After attending the Canada vs USA gold medal game i was making my way back to Vancouver Intl airport to catch a 9:15 PM flight back to Calgary on West Jet. The person I was with was catching a flight back to Toronto at 8:00 PM so we arrived at the airport a little early [approx 5:30 PM]. Upon arrival i immediately went to the West Jet counter to see if I could catch an earlier flight back. Unfortunately, there were none available. I waited with my friend [and his two sons] until approx 7:30 PM at which time they proceeded to there gate to catch their flight. I went to check the status of my flight and found out that it had been delayed by another 2 hours. I then proceeded to get myself something to eat and there after, walked around the terminal trying to kill some time. i bumped into an enthusiastic lady who I briefly met when I got to the airport, and she suggested we go for a couple of drinks to celebrate Team Canada's victory in hockey. I agreed and we proceeded to a lounge and without incident had a couple drinks [and some fries], paid our bill, and left to catch our flight [she was on the same flight back to Calgary]. When we got to the gate I passed by the check-in desk and noted that our flight had been delayed by another 15 minutes. I made some sarcastic remark to the attendant [apparently the flight crew was also behind the counter, something i didn't notice at the time] at the desk about the delay and proceeded to a seat next to the lady i was with to wait for boarding. I should also mention that my two cheeks were still painted with Canadian maple leafs from the hockey game earlier that day. The lady i was with was being enthusiastic in her celebration of the days events and that drew the attention of the West Jet gate attendant. She was asked to provide her boarding pass and was later pulled aside and told she may be declined to board the flight due to her perceived drunken condition. The lady, was in fact not drunk and was able to discuss the misperception with the West Jet attendant. She came back and seated herself next to me and told me about her problem. I suggested to her that I would support her efforts to board the flight and take responsibility for her once on board the plane. I was then approached and also asked to submit my boarding pass which I did without hesitation. At 11:30 the plane finally started to board. As West Jet was still holding both our boarding passes we waited until almost everyone had been checked-in before being re-approached by the West Jet attendant. She looked at the lady I was with and told her that she would be permitted to board and handed back her pass. She then turned to me and advised me that i, however, was not going to be permitted to board and would have to wait for the next flight. As this was the last flight of the day, she was basically telling me i would have to wait till morning to catch a flight. The only reason she provided me with was the that the Captain of the flight had taken offence to the comments I made while entering the gate [and possibly my painted cheeks???]. I had already been at the airport for almost 6 hours and was outraged by this apparent mishandling and misjudgement of my situation. The attendant allowed me no opportunity to explain my situation and when I became vocal with her I was approached by two police officers [what were they doing there?] and told i was to be escorted out of the the terminal. i advised the officers that I had no intention of missing my flight and that they would have to arrest me to get me to leave. they proceeded to handcuff my hands behind my back and forcibly guide me out of the terminal into their squad car. They presumed I was drunk [a West Jet error in judgement perhaps] and told me they were taking me to the station and putting me in the drunk tank for the evening. I suggested to them they administer a breathylizer test to me but they refused to do so [why...because they knew i was sober???]. They finally determined that they would not take me to the station, but to a hotel instead, where I was to stay the evening and then attempt to catch a flight the next day. When i finished registering at the hotel [another $225] I proceeded to book online with Air Canada a one way ticket back to Calgary for 6:00 AM that morning [another $750]. WHAT THE HECK WAS WEST JET TRYING TO PROVE!!! A severe error in judgement by an overzealous employee destroyed a great weekend. I experienced degradation, humiliation, frustration and a huge inconvenience [not to mention $1000 dollars out of my pocket]. In 46 years I have never experienced such treatment by an airline. The follow up by the individual handling my case on behalf of West Jet doesn't look like it will produce any justice either. Because of my insistence that I was in no way at fault, the individual suggested that he might consider banning me from West Jet flights period! West Jet, you really made a mess of this situation...congratulations.

I fly WestJet quite regularly (up to 10 times a year) and have never had an issue with them before or after the new reservation system, and I've certainty never had any question as to whether to their pilots were well qualified or not. The prices for flights simply cannot be beat by other airlines and everyone you meet along the way from the customer service reps to the flight crew are phenomenal. I highly recommend them to everyone. A++++

I used to love using Westjet. What a breath of fresh air after years of dealing with large bureaucratic airlines. Well all of that has changed. Westjet is worse than any of them were on a bad day. When you have an online reservation system that almost NEVER gives you the price you see posted up front(in one case a posted price of $599 per person actually came confirmed at $1599 on WJV! and then dropped back down to $879 a few days later but confirmed at $1179!). This is unacceptable. When you call you get some bs about prices increasing as the plane fills up but that isn't the case. There reservation system is basing projected capacities based on the number of hits on their website (and others including SellOff which they are now using as an agent as well) I just finally gave up and booked through another vacation company. At least their price isnt a fairytale. Very Very Very poor way to treat potential customers. I won't be using them again.

I've traveled with WestJet both before and after their new reservation system. Of course, I don't like being on hold for a long time when booking, but at least I don't get charged simply for calling in! And sometimes I've gotten through right away. The people haven't changed at all either. I'm sure you'd get through to an agent quicker with other airlines, but if anything ever goes wrong with my booking, or during the flight, I'd rather have the comfort of knowing that I'll be taken care of!!!

I talked to the agent about waiting for so long when I got through the last time (note: TALKED. Didn't yell at her for being on hold, as I know it's not her fault and there's bigger things in this world. Sometimes being nice when you don't want to goes a long way!) and she was so nice! I just wish I could remember her name.

She told me about how calling at the non-peak times (basically outside of your average business day) gets you through a lot faster. Also, she asked me if I lived near an airport, because most of the airports...at least the larger ones...have separate counters for ticket sales, so you can book a ticket, change, or cancel your trip there. I've booked last minute tickets at the airport too. Guess I've been lucky that they haven't been too full when I've wanted to go!

Basically, even with the recent setbacks, I can tell that all the people that work for them still genuinely want to help. A good computer system and low wait times are no replacement for someone who cares!

What a joke this outfit is.

They keep vacations on their site that they don't have planes to handle. No updates. Then you get to wait an hour in the call centre queue to find out they have no plane and that it is "too hard to update everything". This is what computers/scripts/programs are for WestJet.

Thanks a ton for letting me waste my entire morning trying to book through your poor service / poor business plan / won't be in buisness long communication/booking avenues.

Total joke.

I also used to prefer westjet to other airline options but now they have terrible waiting times both online and on the phone due to this new computer system. We are also travelling with an infant and now are not allowed to do web check in! Our flight today will be the last flight we ever take with westjet, I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with this company that used to be top of the line in customer service.

West Jet has poor landings. My friend came to visit and one landing was so bad the whole plane screamed.

Are their pilots well qualified?

Why do I keep hearing about this?
