Credits from cancellations (Westjet does not refunds) are transferable to another person. Has anyone tried this and is it better to get an agent to do this or do it oneself online?? Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

On March 26, 2010 returning from Las Vegas to Toronto on business, at 9:00 AM in the morning, I checked in over 3 hours in advance for my reservation. Even though they said their policy was not to over book - they did. Even though I showed up well ahead of a lot people, they would not back down. They offered me two taxi chits and a meal voucher and said to come back 15 hours later for the red eye. After standing at the counter for an hour on the phone to WestJet, I got a reservation on an early afternoon flight to Montreal and I had to book my own flight on Air Canada to Toronto (after a WestJet credit bank of $200 I am $286 out of pocket) Being a Air Canada Elite member I was hesitant to use WestJet and will remain that way forever. Not Happy

I've travelled with Westjet before, with no real problems, but this trip will make me rethink whether they will be my airline of choice in the future. I arrived at the Calgary airport two hours early for my flight from Calgary to Abbotsford with my 12 month old and my six year old. We checked in, had lunch and then went to our gate to await our flight. We sat for 45 minutes waiting for our plane to arrive and wondering why we were not boarding. After another 15 minutes went by, another passenger who had just been up at the counter talking to the WJ employee at the gate stopped in front of us and thought we might want to know that our plane was going to be 3 1/2 hours late! When we went up to the counter to inquire, we were only told "so sorry that the Westjet employee that checked us in didn't inform us". !!! With no other flights available I had to sit with my now crying baby and frustrated 6 year old. Needless to say that after 5 HOURS of sitting in the airport and after having run out of baby food, milk and snacks AND DIAPERS, my kids were completely out of patience. My question is....Why did the WJ employee at the gate not announce the late flight and keep announcing it to all those arriving at the gate? Why was it not noted on the fancy tv screen behind her counter that kept scrolling mindless WJ advertisements? My completely exhausted baby (who had missed both daily naps by this time) screamed for the entire flight to Abbotsford - apparently much to the chagrin of the flight attendant who came and tersely asked me if there was anything she could get me (her way of saying "please shut your baby up")! I am writing a letter of complaint this evening...but not sure where I will send it as the oh so transparent Westjet has not provided any email addresses on its website where I can send a comment or complaint.

WAY TO GO WESTJET

Calgary to Kauai, finally a holiday after 2 years! I booked Westjet as I had great experiences with them in the past. Sadly, all has changed. The "smiling" Westjet attendant is now aptly named the "scowling" Westjet attendant. Both trips inbound and outbound were not pleasant. The only thing I heard from the flight attendants was "sorry, would you like to fill out a comment card". This was their response to everything. I also was not impressed by the gentlemen who was on the speaker announcing the safety features and joking about money dropping from above, rather than oxygen masks. I have no problem with a bit of ha ha, but NOT during safety instructions! shame on you Westjet! No TVs, smaller seats, lack of service when only met with unenthusiastic attendants who made you feel like you were intruding on their lunch time or magazine reading time! What a shame. I will not fly Westjet again.

Everyone should know this: Tho I had been told not to put valuables in our luggage, who would think that on a flight from Edmonton to Kelowna it would be a concern. Our camera was stolen from our luggage on a recent flight. Of course when I called WJ they acted like it was the first time this ever happend and offered no help or compensation. Learn from our mistake!!

When I called to book a flight to Hawaii with Westjet they immediately answered and the lady was very polite. My flight is booked and I was given all the information necessary for my trip. But I called early in the morning, when few people would call. So I believe that the service isn't bad its just hard to get through to them at the busy times of the day (which is expected). For example, if you go to a popular restaurant on a Saturday night and with no reservation you would have to expect to wait a long time - maybe even hours depending on the popularity of the restaurant.

As many other people have previously stated, I have always been a big fan of West Jet and always choose them as my preferred airline. That illusion, unfortunately, has now been erased. My story starts on the afternoon of Sunday, February 28th 2010. After attending the Canada vs USA gold medal game i was making my way back to Vancouver Intl airport to catch a 9:15 PM flight back to Calgary on West Jet. The person I was with was catching a flight back to Toronto at 8:00 PM so we arrived at the airport a little early [approx 5:30 PM]. Upon arrival i immediately went to the West Jet counter to see if I could catch an earlier flight back. Unfortunately, there were none available. I waited with my friend [and his two sons] until approx 7:30 PM at which time they proceeded to there gate to catch their flight. I went to check the status of my flight and found out that it had been delayed by another 2 hours. I then proceeded to get myself something to eat and there after, walked around the terminal trying to kill some time. i bumped into an enthusiastic lady who I briefly met when I got to the airport, and she suggested we go for a couple of drinks to celebrate Team Canada's victory in hockey. I agreed and we proceeded to a lounge and without incident had a couple drinks [and some fries], paid our bill, and left to catch our flight [she was on the same flight back to Calgary]. When we got to the gate I passed by the check-in desk and noted that our flight had been delayed by another 15 minutes. I made some sarcastic remark to the attendant [apparently the flight crew was also behind the counter, something i didn't notice at the time] at the desk about the delay and proceeded to a seat next to the lady i was with to wait for boarding. I should also mention that my two cheeks were still painted with Canadian maple leafs from the hockey game earlier that day. The lady i was with was being enthusiastic in her celebration of the days events and that drew the attention of the West Jet gate attendant. She was asked to provide her boarding pass and was later pulled aside and told she may be declined to board the flight due to her perceived drunken condition. The lady, was in fact not drunk and was able to discuss the misperception with the West Jet attendant. She came back and seated herself next to me and told me about her problem. I suggested to her that I would support her efforts to board the flight and take responsibility for her once on board the plane. I was then approached and also asked to submit my boarding pass which I did without hesitation. At 11:30 the plane finally started to board. As West Jet was still holding both our boarding passes we waited until almost everyone had been checked-in before being re-approached by the West Jet attendant. She looked at the lady I was with and told her that she would be permitted to board and handed back her pass. She then turned to me and advised me that i, however, was not going to be permitted to board and would have to wait for the next flight. As this was the last flight of the day, she was basically telling me i would have to wait till morning to catch a flight. The only reason she provided me with was the that the Captain of the flight had taken offence to the comments I made while entering the gate [and possibly my painted cheeks???]. I had already been at the airport for almost 6 hours and was outraged by this apparent mishandling and misjudgement of my situation. The attendant allowed me no opportunity to explain my situation and when I became vocal with her I was approached by two police officers [what were they doing there?] and told i was to be escorted out of the the terminal. i advised the officers that I had no intention of missing my flight and that they would have to arrest me to get me to leave. they proceeded to handcuff my hands behind my back and forcibly guide me out of the terminal into their squad car. They presumed I was drunk [a West Jet error in judgement perhaps] and told me they were taking me to the station and putting me in the drunk tank for the evening. I suggested to them they administer a breathylizer test to me but they refused to do so [why...because they knew i was sober???]. They finally determined that they would not take me to the station, but to a hotel instead, where I was to stay the evening and then attempt to catch a flight the next day. When i finished registering at the hotel [another $225] I proceeded to book online with Air Canada a one way ticket back to Calgary for 6:00 AM that morning [another $750]. WHAT THE HECK WAS WEST JET TRYING TO PROVE!!! A severe error in judgement by an overzealous employee destroyed a great weekend. I experienced degradation, humiliation, frustration and a huge inconvenience [not to mention $1000 dollars out of my pocket]. In 46 years I have never experienced such treatment by an airline. The follow up by the individual handling my case on behalf of West Jet doesn't look like it will produce any justice either. Because of my insistence that I was in no way at fault, the individual suggested that he might consider banning me from West Jet flights period! West Jet, you really made a mess of this situation...congratulations.

I fly WestJet quite regularly (up to 10 times a year) and have never had an issue with them before or after the new reservation system, and I've certainty never had any question as to whether to their pilots were well qualified or not. The prices for flights simply cannot be beat by other airlines and everyone you meet along the way from the customer service reps to the flight crew are phenomenal. I highly recommend them to everyone. A++++
