WestJet Review - by Shayne Bakke

I used to love using Westjet. What a breath of fresh air after years of dealing with large bureaucratic airlines. Well all of that has changed. Westjet is worse than any of them were on a bad day. When you have an online reservation system that almost NEVER gives you the price you see posted up front(in one case a posted price of $599 per person actually came confirmed at $1599 on WJV! and then dropped back down to $879 a few days later but confirmed at $1179!). This is unacceptable. When you call you get some bs about prices increasing as the plane fills up but that isn't the case. There reservation system is basing projected capacities based on the number of hits on their website (and others including SellOff which they are now using as an agent as well) I just finally gave up and booked through another vacation company. At least their price isnt a fairytale. Very Very Very poor way to treat potential customers. I won't be using them again.

I've traveled with WestJet both before and after their new reservation system. Of course, I don't like being on hold for a long time when booking, but at least I don't get charged simply for calling in! And sometimes I've gotten through right away. The people haven't changed at all either. I'm sure you'd get through to an agent quicker with other airlines, but if anything ever goes wrong with my booking, or during the flight, I'd rather have the comfort of knowing that I'll be taken care of!!!
I talked to the agent about waiting for so long when I got through the last time (note: TALKED. Didn't yell at her for being on hold, as I know it's not her fault and there's bigger things in this world. Sometimes being nice when you don't want to goes a long way!) and she was so nice! I just wish I could remember her name.
She told me about how calling at the non-peak times (basically outside of your average business day) gets you through a lot faster. Also, she asked me if I lived near an airport, because most of the airports...at least the larger ones...have separate counters for ticket sales, so you can book a ticket, change, or cancel your trip there. I've booked last minute tickets at the airport too. Guess I've been lucky that they haven't been too full when I've wanted to go!
Basically, even with the recent setbacks, I can tell that all the people that work for them still genuinely want to help. A good computer system and low wait times are no replacement for someone who cares!

What a joke this outfit is.
They keep vacations on their site that they don't have planes to handle. No updates. Then you get to wait an hour in the call centre queue to find out they have no plane and that it is "too hard to update everything". This is what computers/scripts/programs are for WestJet.
Thanks a ton for letting me waste my entire morning trying to book through your poor service / poor business plan / won't be in buisness long communication/booking avenues.
Total joke.

I also used to prefer westjet to other airline options but now they have terrible waiting times both online and on the phone due to this new computer system. We are also travelling with an infant and now are not allowed to do web check in! Our flight today will be the last flight we ever take with westjet, I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with this company that used to be top of the line in customer service.

West Jet has poor landings. My friend came to visit and one landing was so bad the whole plane screamed.
Are their pilots well qualified?
Why do I keep hearing about this?

SO! i was on hold for about and hour and 3/4's only when a lady picked, up, i was shocked, answered, had to change my flight, I need to be in Whistler early to catch a bus and i explained this to her, she seemed understanding, but there was nothing she could do cause i didnt have my credit card with me to charge me for the fee, so she said i could sign up, so I assumed it was just so i didnt have to wait for almost 2 hours again. But when i went to check my intinerary after signing up, my flight had been changed to one 4 hours earlier, which is what i needed. thank you west jet. now to see if they billed me;)

I used to give this airline kudos for service. Now provides in my view the worst service I have seen anywhere. 3+ hour waits to resolve problems created with a poorly operating online reservation system should be embarrassing to management. I would highly recommend to anyone that they consider making reservations with another airline to avoid the intense frustration that Westjet service is now generating.

This business is abusive! they can call me a guest all they want, the fact is i have just been on hold for over two hrs and finally gave up. This was to try and get a price for a group of up to 25 passengers to a Mexican destination. This is the third day i have tried to get through to no avail. I just cannot believe that this carrier buikt to outserve the competition operates like this. UNBELIEVABLE!

GRRRRRR I've been trying for a week to talk to a Westjet agent on the phone. No one will answer. I've left the phone on for up 38 mins and no one answers. Unbelievable way to operate an airline.
Also first page on online booking at Westjet Vacations gives me a price of $1,049 plus $184 taxes. When I finalize it comes to $1,623 (I declined insurance) and no explanations of what the extra $390.50 is for.
I've always been a fan of Westjet but now someone is out to lunch (and has been for some time)

I travelled with WestJet for the time in November to Tampa, Florida and was very pleased with the service. So much so that I booked a vacation with them to Punta Cana in March. I did have problems with the website though. Someone needs to address that right away. They should have a look at other sites to see how their site is lacking in information and usability. I did make a few calls and never had to wait long. The travel consultants were pleasant and helpful. I'm hoping everything works out well with their vacation packages because I never want to fly Air Canada again.
